Beginning my journey with Google AdWords
My journey with Search Engine Marketing (SEM) began in spring of 2012 when my professor of Foundations of Digital Markets at Emory University Goizueta Business School announced that our class would be participating in that year's Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC). As a part of the program, Google gave each group of students a $250 AdWords credit and we partnered up with a local small business to help them with their Google AdWords account (now known as Google Ads). We made a visit to a local boutique clothing shop in Emory Circle and the owner agreed to let us partner with her. At the time, she had a static website listing her address, phone number, and store hours. As we worked with her, we recommended that she consider an online e-commerce platform that would allow her to sell clothing nationally rather than limiting her business to Decatur, Georgia. We offered to help her set one up, but unfortunately she didn't have the extra bandwidth herself or another employee who could maintain the e-commerce site after our project was over.
Helping SMBs as a Googler
June 2013, I joined Google out of university to consult small- and medium-business (SMB) advertisers from mom and pop shops to medium sized advertising agencies with their Google Ads, Google Analytics, Google Merchant Center, and Google My Business accounts.
